Barn Owl nesting boxes can attract the birds to increase the local population and effectively reduce rodents as a long-term sustainable and safe approach to pest control.

For local Vineyards, these Barn Owl Boxes may be used as a form of Sustainable Winegrowing and Vineyard Management through rodent control.

Barn Owls

• Rodent Control - Barn owls consume meadow voles, gophers, rats, mice and moles, on average consuming 53 pounds of gophers per year and 3,000 rodents per family in a four-month breeding cycle. Barn owls as rodent control provides a long-term sustainable and safe approach without reliance on poisonous pest control, which otherwise kills predator populations and increases the rodent problem.

• Song - The distinctive "screech" call of the Barn Owl announces her presence. They use the call to indicate their territory or to announce their presence. Click to hear the call! ​

• Installation - These boxes may be mounted on trees, poles, or other structures, with typically 5-6 Barn Owl boxes placed per 50 acres. In Northern and Central CA, Barn Owls begin their nesting season in early Winter through late Spring.
